Strengthening Ties: Fujian Health Delegation Visits African Centre for Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture

The African Centre for Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture (ACCMA) in Johannesburg had the honour of hosting a distinguished delegation led by Mr. Lin Xian, Deputy-General of the Fujian Provincial Health Commission. The visit marked a significant step in fostering collaboration and enhancing the development of Chinese medicine practices in South Africa.
The delegation was warmly received by the Chairperson of the ACCMA, Dr Zijing Hu, who expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from Fujian Province. The meeting focused on an in-depth discussion regarding the current status of Chinese medicine in South Africa, highlighting its growing acceptance among local communities as a complementary healthcare solution.
Mr. Lin Xian expressed appreciation for the ACCMA’s efforts in promoting traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the region and shared insights into Fujian’s initiatives in advancing TCM globally. He emphasised the importance of mutual learning and cultural exchange, stating, “Chinese medicine has much to offer in addressing global health challenges, and our shared vision for its integration into South Africa’s healthcare system is a testament to the strength of our partnership.”
Dr Zijing Hu, the Chairperson of the CMAAA, highlighted key achievements including TCM higher education and research. Discussions also explored future prospects, such as collaborative research, training programs for local practitioners, and the potential establishment of TCM education hubs in South Africa.
The meeting concluded with a tour of the ACCMA’s state-of-the-art facilities, where the delegation witnessed firsthand the impact of TCM on patient care. Both parties expressed optimism about future projects and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing TCM as a bridge between cultures and a tool for improving global health.
This visit underscores the importance of international partnerships in healthcare innovation, reflecting the shared commitment of China and South Africa to promote holistic and integrative medicine for the betterment of their communities.
